Fostering

Please open your heart and home to foster a German Shepherd Dog.

Jake

Jake was scheduled to die at a shelter. Just one more beautiful purebred German Shepherd Dog that found himself homeless. He was a healthy, loving, four year old male who had run out of time at the shelter. Luckily, Jake found a foster making it possible for BrightStar to save him and take him to his new foster home. He was adopted in three weeks. Whew! Jake is now alive and well with his new forever family…..thanks to a kind foster! We take as many adoptable dogs as we can from shelters, but if we do not have a foster home available, we must leave the dog behind to an uncertain fate.

You can help by offering one of these great dogs a foster home.  The typical length of stay in a foster home is three to eight weeks.  We ask fosters to give the dog a safe place to re-gain confidence and teach him/her some basic house manners.  We require the foster to have or borrow a large crate to help the dog with the transition.  We also ask that fosters observe the personality and temperament of their dog, and update their dog’s profile on the website. These insights help us find the right permanent home for the dog.

Fosters are usually involved in placement decisions.

BrightStar is operated entirely by volunteers.  Our dogs are fostered in homes, which allows us to get to know them, their personalities and learn what type of home environment would be best.

BrightStar provides veterinary care for all of our foster dogs.  We provide collars, tags, as well as flea preventatives.  We also provide support, encouragement and mentoring.  If you would like to join our team as a Foster, please contact us at info@brightstargsd.org.

Fostering a dog gives you great satisfaction knowing you have helped save the life of one of these beautiful creatures. It is a wonderful experience and helps you learn more about this awesome breed.
