Please open your heart and home to foster a German Shepherd Dog.
Jake was scheduled to die at a shelter. Just one more beautiful purebred German Shepherd Dog that found himself homeless. Healthy, loving, 4 yr old male, who had run out of time at the shelter. Luckily, Jake found a foster making it possible for BrightStar to save him and take him to his new foster home. He was adopted in 3 weeks. Whew! Jake is now alive and well with his new forever family........thanks to a kind foster! We take as many adoptable dogs as we can from shelters, but if we do not have a foster home available, we must leave the dog behind to an uncertain fate.
You can help by offering one of these great dogs a foster home. The typical length of stay in a foster home is three weeks to eight weeks. We ask fosters to give the dog a safe place to regain confidence and teach him/ her some basic house manners. We require the foster to have or borrow a large crate to help the dog with the transition. We also ask that fosters observe the personality and temperament of their dog, and relay that information back to BrightStar. These insights help us find the right permanent home for the dog.
Fosters are always involved in placement decisions. Fosters also have first option on adopting their foster dog, unless the dog entered the program specifically for an approved home.
BrightStar pays all vet bills and can provide collars and and food (if it is for a prescription diet). We also provide support, encouragement and mentoring.
Fostering a dog gives you great satisfaction knowing you have helped save the life of one of these beautiful creatures. It is a wonderful experience and helps you learn more about this awesome breed.
If you love German Shepherds, and could provide a warm, safe haven for one of these dogs..... please contact our Foster Coordinator:
