Meet Juliet. Please read the complete description about Juliet before inquiring about her:
She came to us from a local shelter. She is a sweet girl but very shy and timid.
11/23/09 Update: Juliet needs to go to a home with other dogs.
She is continuing to work on her confidence building. She will need a patient and experienced but gentle handler.
12/09/09 Update: Juliet is about 1 ½ years old. Although dog-friendly she is extremely fearful of people. She takes a long time to get to know you. We are not sure what has happened to her in the past, but her distrust for people is almost debilitating at times. In no way can Juliet be made to take a leadership role, whether in a pack or with her people. She needs to be placed in an experienced home with other dogs already present. Her highest comfort level is with large male dogs. She needs constant guidance and reassurance and even after finding the right family Juliet will still need extensive training and discipline.
More to follow on her progress as we are working on introducing new people to her in her ‘safe’ zone and on her confidence.
01/15/10 Update: Juliet is still having a hard time with new people, places and things and hates change to her routine. She will need to be adopted locally as it will take numerous visits to find the right family, and a time-consuming transition to a new home.
05/16/10 Update: Juliet continues to progress in her ‘safe zone’. It may be a moment before she remembers people she has met but adjusts quickly to their presence. She is even becoming more accustomed to attention and touches by other people rather than from just her foster mom. Despite this improvement, Juliet will still need a local adoption without exception. (Juliet is being fostered in ROCHESTER, NEW YORK.)
Potential families must remember that even though Juliet is very small (approx. 45 lbs) she is a full-grown German Shepherd Dog. She is not a puppy her training must be taken seriously and she needs constant guidance and discipline. With that said, Juliet is NOT looking for a family with small children.
Juliet does well with her foster kitty friends and doggy friends. She best prefers NOT to be an only dog. Juliet would do best to be part of a pack (but towards the "back of the pack"). Other dogs resident in the home should be seasoned in the home environment, not new. She tends to look to the other dogs for guidance, confidence and stability. Ms. Juliet has a high energy level and likes to play and play and play!
We continue working on the basic commands. Potty training continues to be an issue but has improved drastically. Her foster family is looking into some alternative methods to aid with the potty training.
Juliet is spayed, up to date on shots and micro chipped.

Meet Samantha.
*UPDATE 7-14-10*
Samantha "Sammie" is 11 months old she will be 1 years old on July 30th.
She was kept in the breeder's kennel for the first 7 months of her life and was purchased by a gentleman that did take her for training and surrender her to the trainer who brought her into Brightstar.
She is very leery of men she barks and shows her teeth. She is showing fear not aggression. She needs to go to a home with other dogs to gain her confidence. She does well with cats and small animals. I DO NOT know how she will be with small children. She tends to be easily startled.
I have been socializing her walking her daily. She does well on the leash and needs to be next to myself and her foster sister at all times.
When people come into the home the rule is: Don't Look at her, Don't Touch her, and Don't Talk to her, she will bark but if you do not acknowledge her she may come around and sniff you and walk away. (this is also the rule when I walk her, she tends to follow what my dog does and stays calm).
She is a beautiful girl who likes to play with her toys, loves her bones and is content playing by herself. She knows her basic commands, walks well on the leash.
We are still working on potty training, she does well at times and is still having some accidents.
At this time Samantha is very under weight she needs to gain at least 15 pounds before she can be adopted. You can see her ribs and her hip bones. She is a very picky eater, I feed her in her crate because she is too distracted in what I am doing or her foster sister. She seems to finish her food when I do this. She does like her treats.
I also massage her back legs to strengthen them, when I first got her she had no muscle mass and her back legs have shown improvement.
She needs to go to a home with a confident strong person with a lot of love and understanding and consistent guidanceSamantha was kept in a breeder's kennel and not socialized for the first seven months of her life.
Samantha will only be allowed to go to a forever home within the Rochester area.
Samantha is spayed, up to date on shots and micro chipped.

Meet Gerda.(a.k.a. Greta) She is a 2 year old female German Shepherd Dog.
COME SEE ME AT PETSMART IN GREECE ON SATURDAY 12-3
She is a very sweet girl and is ready for a fresh start.
Gerda is a special needs dog as she will have to have her one rear leg amputated.
Please consider becoming a Guardian Angel for Gerda and help us pay for the operation that saved her life.Contributing is simple and secure with the Chip-In widget on the main page. Transactions are made through Pay-Pal.
*7/11/10 UPDATE*
As everyone knows, Greta came into Brightstar with a bad back leg. She didn't use it for walking and when she would run it literally got in her way because the leg didn't bend.
After a light rain Greta would come into the house and fall repeatedly because that leg was wet and it just made her slip and slide all over.
After a few vet visits, Dr. Jim and I agreed that Greta's quality of life was lessened by this "bad" leg. We decided that amputating the leg would be a blessing for her rather than a burden.
Let me tell you, I did second guess myself when she was at the vet having the surgery. But I said if she were my dog, I would have the same surgery done. But the minute I saw her after surgery, I knew the right decision had been made.
She walked out of that vet with her tail wagging, hopping at full speed at a fast trot almost as fast as my horses trot! Even going back to the vet for a check up, she was happy to walk inside, almost like she wanted to say..."Hey, look at me, I'm doing so much better and I'm so happy!"
So if someone is looking for a super super lovey dog then this girl is for you! She wakes up giving kisses and goes to bed giving kisses. She really is an angel wearing a GSD fur coat!
**UPDATE 8/23/10**
Gerda is fully healed and loving life! She is ready for someone to give her the forever she has dreamed of. She is very affectionate and is very willing to please.
**UPDATE 9/1/10**
Gerda is a great companion! She rides well in cars, understands basic commands (plus "get your ball/rope/etc") and is not a barker or a chewer. She's been doing very well without a crate, but had one previously. She is very easy going and is really just happy to be around the gang, even if you're just watching TV. She is very active and loves a good game of fetch or a nice walk around the block!
Adopting this girl to add to your family will make her a loyal member forever.
Gerda is spayed, up to date on shots and micro chipped.
